Thanks to the awesome people over at /r/nvidia, i managed i get blender back up and running at full power again. This is great because that not only means I can return to character creation for midnight, but also because I can now create the game assets I've had floating around in my head for a while. I now know what I'm gonna be doing in my breaktime between studying instead of playing games.
